What Does Your Sleeping Position Say About You?

What Does Your Sleeping Position Say About You?

Despite there being a number of different sleeping positions, we all have a particular position that we favour over the rest. For most of us, it’s the one that we’ve slept in since infancy.

But not everyone knows what their favourite sleeping position says about their character, so here’s a brief overview to give you an insight.

Holding a pillow position

Many people like to sleep while holding a pillow close to their bodies with their arms wrapped around it. Unsurprisingly, this suggests that people that adopt this position are usually affectionate individuals who like to be physically close to the people they care about.

Soldier position

It is probably equally unsurprising that those who sleep in a soldier-like posture, lying on their backs with their arms directly by their sides, usually adopt a rather strict and severe approach to life. With having quite high expectations of themselves and others in their lives.

Log position

Lying in a similar position to the 'soldier', but rather on your side than your back, is one of the most popular ways to sleep. Often referred to as ‘the log’, this position is surprisingly usually adopted by individuals who couldn’t be more different from their ‘soldier-like’ cousins. They tend to be very carefree and exuberant and are very friendly and popular in social situations.

Foetal position

The most common sleeping posture though, assumed by 41% of the population, is the famous ‘foetal position’. Twice as common in women as it is in men, this position is usually adopted by the kind of person who has a tough outer shell and can be quite shy and reserved much of the time. But once they open up, turn out to be extremely relaxed and sociable individuals.

These are just some of the many sleeping postures that people adopt when the lights go out at night and, of course, not everyone favours just one. Whilst it isn’t a perfect science, learning a little bit about what the postures tell you can be an interesting journey of self-discovery.
