Is it time for you to consider a new mattress?

Is it time for you to consider a new mattress?

We are told by the Sleep Council that you need to replace your mattress at least every eight years, but why? We explore the reasons why it’s important to replace your mattress and how you can tell that it’s time for a new one.

Why is it important to replace your mattress?

Sleeping poorly
Your mattress is bound to wear over time, producing uneven lumps, springs and sagging which can result in a disturbed night sleep. Prolonged sleep deprivation can lead to negative effects such as trouble concentrating, a weakened immune system and dramatic mood swings during the day.

Aches and pains
If you are waking up sore or stiff, then it’s a sign that your mattress is not giving your body the support it needs and it’s time for a replacement. As you have aged, your body may have changed shape, or you may now have an injury that requires additional support, rendering your old mattress unsuitable.

Benefits of a new mattress:

If you are willing to bin shoes when they stop providing support and cause discomfort, then you should be willing to do the same for your mattress, especially since you spend a third of you day on it. With the purchase of a new mattress, you could see instant results to your sleeping discomfort, as well as providing other health benefits.

Sleep better
The most obvious benefit that getting a new mattress will give you is a better sleep pattern. Eliminating uncomfortable lumps and bumps or uncomfortable springs will mean that you can sleep undisturbed throughout the night and, as a result, can expect to feel more alert and less run down throughout the day. You’ll also eliminate the uncomfortable aches and pains you’ve been experiencing in the mornings!

Reduce allergy symptoms
Over time, allergens gather and attach themselves to your mattress, which also attracts pests like dust mites (bed mites), which many people are allergic to. You might not have thought that your runny nose and cough was a result of your mattress, but especially for those with asthma and allergies, it’s important to replace your mattress to avoid these reactions.
