Don’t leave it to the last minute

Planning ahead of the big day is a must for a smooth, relaxed and fun Christmas. By preparing well in advance, you can then rest assured that everything is taken care of, allowing you to spend time enjoying your guests’ company instead of scurrying to the shop for cranberry sauce or sneaking off to wrap presents.

Plan a schedule for Christmas dinner

As part of your preparations, make a list of everything you need to do on the big day itself. If you’re in charge of Christmas dinner, write down a detailed schedule of what you’re cooking and when. You might find it helpful to also note down how long each item takes to cook and when it needs to go in and out of the oven. Use the timer on your phone for a discrete reminder of when you need to check on the food.

Think about sleeping arrangements

Help ensure everyone gets a great night’s sleep for the big day by giving everyone a comfortable place to sleep. To avoid sore necks from the sofa or waking up on the hard floor in the middle of the night because the air mattress has lost air, why not treat your guests to proper bed and mattress? Day beds or sofa beds are fantastic for smaller rooms as they can double as a bed and/or a sofa!

Stick to a budget

It’s very tempting to go all out for your Christmas party but it’s important to remember you don’t need to overdo it. Set out a budget, and stick to it, and take the time to consider what you and your guests will realistically eat and drink. While it’s always great to have an extra yule log in the cupboard (you know, just in case), think about whether you’re actually likely to get through a second turkey or exotic spirits.
